What is your professional title or area of expertise?

Director Commercial Finance. I have been working for 32yrs on Big 4 Audit firms and multinational companies in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and the last 4yrs here in Winston Salem for Reynolds American. My areas of expertise are Finance, Audit and Accounting.

How did you discover Montessori?

When we started looking for daycare options for my son (now 8) in Costa Rica we received good feedback and recommendations from friends regarding the Montessori philosophy and we thought that it was very interesting and decided that it was the best option for him. Then when we moved to Winston Salem in 2022 we only looked for options in Montessori schools and were very lucky that we found a very good one.

Why do you love being on the WSM Board?

I have always been driven to share my finance knowledge with other professionals who have expertise in other areas and when I was offered the opportunity I took it right away and have really enjoyed being a member of the Board and to apply my strengths and expertise to ensure that the School has a solid financial base and can remain an excellent option for families in the area for many years.

What about WSM attracted you to the school?

Being a Montessori parent is my biggest driver as I can see first hand how my son enjoys coming to school and learning about very diverse topics from regular academic subjects to other more related to nature, supporting others and day to day responsibilities as well as having time to play and spend time with his older and younger friends.

What is a fun fact/interest/hobby you’d like to share?

I enjoy watching team sports and particularly football and it is something that I really look forward to during the night and weekends especially after my son goes to bed as it is my way to relax my mind. I also like to play golf and it will definitely be a very important part of my retirement plan.
