Children’s House 3 Lead Guide
“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” –Albert Einstein
How did you discover Montessori? I discovered Montessori right out of high school and became a toddler assistant at 18. I fell in love with working with children from that moment on and consider it my niche and contribution to my community. I feel very fortunate to have been exposed to Montessori philosophies at such an early time in my life because it became part of who I am and how I see and feel about children. I love that there is science to support the work but also that Dr. Montessori made it clear in her studies that children are incredibly capable and deserve respect for the amazing things their minds and bodies are learning.
Why do you love being a Montessori teacher? I love being a Montessori teacher because I get to opportunity to inspire. I think the title teacher is slightly presumptuous because really the children don’t need to be taught, they need opportunities to explore and be inspired by the world around them. I like that I get to offer that to them every day. As a Montessori Guide, I look for ways to encourage personal growth and tolerance, acceptance and peacefulness. There’s not another job like it and it gives me tremendous joy to be a Montessorian and part of this community.
What attracted you to WSM? I found WSM at a time when I was ready to start a new chapter in my life. I had been a Nanny for a few years and I was feeling restless and wanting to get back into the classroom. My lovely friend Chelsea was moving from our hometown in Florida to Winston Salem and had applied at WSM. She told me she had a good feeling about the school and I should check it out. I did, and I’m so glad I did. It’s a place that truly cares about the people that come through its doors.
